About

Since I was in high school, I’ve been taking photographs. I fell in with my Nikon camera like an old friend. I would babysit and take all of my earnings to buy black and white film and colored film and then babysit some more to pay to develop it all. Black and white film was my first love. I now have a Canon rebel and I use it almost daily.

Everywhere I go, I can’t help but to frame a shot or appreciate the beauty of a scene unfolding before me. One of the most common things I say is “Hang on, I need to take this picture.” Photography is such a joy for me and the excitement of seeing how a shot comes out is still as fun now as it was for me at sixteen.

Professionally I am an academic psychologist who studied spirituality, religion and health. After the birth of my second son, I became a full time stay at home Mom. During the pandemic, I found refuge in online photography classes offered by the Chicago Botanic Gardens. It was here my relationship to photography was renewed and revitalized. I was mentored by a gentleman who famously says, “No post editing. Edit your photographs before you take them. Use your camera.” And so it is. Those classes paired with learning to shoot with film influenced me greatly. I put a lot of effort into the before part of photography. The after part is then always full of beautiful surprises and interesting details that characterize my photographs.

On the blog you can see what I’m up to, what I see and where I am going. Pictures from the iPhone might appear there intermingled with my rebel shots. Living with boys in Northern Virginia keeps a gal busy. Despite being inundated with life and its surprises, I’ll take a daily walk and undoubtedly find something amazingly cool, grab an image of it and happily share it. I hope you stick around and follow along on the journey.
